Great homes for sale in Fulton County can be found from its southern most part in the City of Chattahoochee Hills to its northernmost tip in Johns Creek; there are great homes for sale through the county’s more than 70 miles (112+ Km) long stretch.
Fulton County was created from DeKalb County in 1853.
The present-day extremely elongated shape Fulton County is due to the merger during the hardship times during the Great Depression Era of the former Campbell on the south and Milton counties – on the north portion - making Fulton the size of three counties.
Located in the upper third of Georgia, a population of a little over 1,000,000 souls call Fulton County home.
Its county seat is
Atlanta, the state capital since 1868. Approximately 90% of the City of Atlanta
is within Fulton County.
Fulton County is the principal county of the Atlanta metropolitan area by many
measurements: economical output, political center, home for the world’s busiest
airport, sports, cultural and a magnet for jobs creation to name a few.
Fulton County spreads through a vast geographic area of approximately 535 sq miles (1,386 km2).
It is named for Robert Fulton, Jr. the American engineer and inventor widely credited as the creator of the first commercially useable steam-driven boat as well as the first practical submarine.
Fulton County Diversity
Fulton is known for its diversity: As I pointed above, this county stretches more than 70 miles on its north-south dimension which definitely lends itself for diversification.
The historical merges the country has been through also gives its DNA a vast diversity to its present makeup.
South Fulton
Geography of the south part of the county is a bit flat - I see it as no accident that this area was chosen to host our international airport.
It has maintained a more rural setting – the majority of the people in south Fulton live outside a city limits.
However a recent series of neighborhood incorporating into cities prompted a concerted effort by the councilmen who have brought a wave of revitalization to the south part of the county where new commercial, residential and business districts are now in place.
All the sudden this once
“sleepy” portion of the county finds itself in the middle of a renaissance,
making it an ideal location for young professionals hunting for Fulton county homes
for sale.
South Fulton neighborhoods like East Point and
College Park have many niceties to offer but one think that I like to point
out: Your home buying dollars buy you much more house in this part of the
county.
Central Fulton
The City of Atlanta literally situated in the heart of the county in most of its important aspects: political power, judicial, cultural, sports and financial.
Not to mention that Atlanta is the geographical center of the county and, not surprisingly, “all major roads lead to” Atlanta.
So really does not matter much which part of the county you live, traveling in Fulton is easy and it provides ample access to the best cultural and entertainment as well as sports options Atlanta has to offer.
Atlanta is home to some of
the city’s biggest attractions like the CNN Center, Phillips Arena [home of the
NBA Atlanta Hawks] , the Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, the Fox
Theatre, the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and the Atlanta
History Center. Georgia Dome – home of the NFL Atlanta Falcons and the world
class Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
In this area Fulton county homes for sale will
include some of the finest condo buildings money can buy anywhere.
North Fulton
The north tip of Fulton has managed to maintain a lot of the character of Georgia of yesteryear: The wonderful feeling of history is felt especially in places like the City of Roswell with of the best preserved pre-civil war settings.
And not far is Alpharetta - just a couple of decades ago it was better known for its bucolic setting and horse farms…
Not long ago I was working with a client over that area and, in many parts of Alpharetta, it still has that quite rural feeling.
However most of it is almost unrecognizable to me: There are roads that just in the mid 1990’s I had drive with extra care in order to avoid hitting a deer.
But now – instead of hitting a deer, you are going to “hit” all sorts of business; you certainly can “hit” some of the best shopping centers around and you definitely can “hit” any kind of restaurants that will strike your fancy.
The great unifier that has
spurred this ongoing development and growth is credited to our highway system
and this case was the completion of GA 400 corridor which has allowed countless
commuters to move north but still work in town.
Among the options you will find in north Fulton County homes for sale will include the possibility of living in a historical house or, if not exactly you cup of tea, at least you can live next to one.
